The Devil Tarot Card Meaning

Acknowledge the shadow aspects of your behavior, including unhealthy attachments, addictions, or illusions of helplessness. You are holding the keys to your own confinement; recognize that your chains are loose. Take action to break free.

A goat-headed beast perched over a chained man and woman who have loose rings around their necks, which they could slip off.

As a Major Arcana card, it points to a larger chapter or lesson rather than a passing moment. Rather than telling you what will happen, it offers a question: where in your life does this energy already live, and how would you like to meet it?

Release, breaking chains, rising above limitation, and reclamation of mental freedom. You are finally ready to confront your base impulses or toxic attachments. Embrace your newfound liberty and rebuild your autonomy.

A reversal isn't a bad omen. It often points to energy that's blocked, turned inward, or asking for gentler attention.

Notice attachments that feel binding rather than loving. Awareness is the first loosening.

Look at what keeps you tied to work that drains you — and how loose the chains really are.

Notice one habit that has a grip on you. Just notice it.
